I use a topical flea product called Frontline (6 pack) which I get from my vet. I just put a few drops on my dog's neck and it lasts for one month. They also make this same product for cats. I have always used this and have never had a flea problem.

The cost is determined by the weight of the dog. My dogs are all under 15 lbs. and I pay $58 for a six month supply.Very important to know the dog's weight when using this product. For cats this product is not sold by how much the cat weighs but cannot be used on kittens under the age of 8 weeks.
Just wanted to mention that this is an OTC medication and you can buy it online but I always get it from my vet. The reason is that I have my dogs weighed to make sure I am giving them the right dose.
