Florida teen kills brother, shoots other sibling, then kills himself

A 13-year-old boy in Florida fatally shot his 6-year-old brother, wounded his 16-year-old brother and then killed himself on Wednesday during an argument over food, authorities said.

The Pasco County Sheriff's Office received a call about the shooting at 6:19 p.m. local time in the city of Hudson, some 45 miles (72 km) north of Tampa, the office said in a statement.

The three brothers were squabbling over dinner, the statement said, when the 13-year-old grabbed a handgun and shot his two brothers before killing himself. The children were home alone at the time.

The older brother was taken to a hospital and his injuries were not considered life-threatening, the statement said. The names of the children were not released by authorities.

"This is a horrific scene," Pasco County Sheriff Chris Nocco Chris said, according to the Tampa Bay Times newspaper. "This is a nightmare when you hear about the ages of these boys, a 6-year-old that was probably playing in his room, an argument over food and he lost his life."

The Times said that the children's mother was at work and a fourth son, who is 18-years-old, was not at the house.

It says a lot about today's generation of parents when a simple argument between siblings results in gunfire and death. Something is seriously missing when kids don't have the simple skills needed to cope with a disagreement/argument or rejection without resorting to murder and suicide. It seriously scares me to think of some of the kids today growing up and becoming parents later on. Life is going to be full of disagreements and disappointments and if kids today don't start learning how to deal with that we are headed for trouble.

Don't ever remember suggesting someone that young should be allowed to have a firearm. Had my first one at 12 and only after many hours of training and trips to the range. 

Anyways being armed helps more American's then the bad things that happen. And even if it didn't  i do not agree with punshing law abiding citizens because others choose not to. Plus no liberal still don't have a answer on how people like the elderly are supposed to protect themselves from the stronger if they can't be armed.

I hear about this sort of thing all of the time. I always knew a majority of siblings fought, no matter how religious or how loving the parents are. Such things as sibling rivalry can make siblings hate each other. Its uncommon that I run into anyone that ever got along with their siblings.

Yes they would happen. If not guns then knives. Your country has one of the highest knife attacks in the world! 

Career criminals don't always need to use a gun. But the elderly or many woman home alone don't have a chance against a young man who has intentions of hurting you or worse when the intentions are getting what he wants.

Just for MARCH 870 stories of knife attacks in your country. And yet in your country the government would rather have people helpless to these attacks then being able to defend themselves. As far as I am concerned your government is as guilty as the knife totting maniacs running around.

I could not find one for 2014 but this is from 2012 with the epidemic you have in knife violence.

Not sure what your point is? No one is denying violence in America or anywhere. I was pointing out how silly and stupid it is to ban things to prevent violence that ends up leaving people helpless and makes the ban pointless while solving nothing. And Britain is one huge tank full of hypocrisy.

There is no point there. Murders are still happening by the tens of thousands in Europe just doing it using a different method. So in that number of deaths It is civilians who have saved there own lives and family not just murders. Yes the entire world is on fire who in the heck might want to actually protect themselves. Plus I never said everyone should carry firearms. It should be a free choice. 

Yes trusting a small group of people to run all of our lives and determine how we live, eat and crap. NO THANK YOU! The problem we have is people want to kill and murder one another. Taking away a method of doing so won't solve anything as they will just seek out another means to go about it. I am sure the countries with strict gun laws simply have the murders being done with other means. Do you really think someone who wants to kill is going to give up on the idea just because you taken away their guns? This sad event could have easily be done with a knife or a baseball bat both of which this child could have easily gotten his hands on and no one would be calling for a ban on bats or knives because they inherently know what the real problem is and it's not the tool used to take lives.

Never anywhere in my writings have I suggested a six year old should carry a gun. What the win is the tens of thousands of lives saved every year. The thousands of rapes prevented every year. So yes it is a big win for responsible law abiding citizens choosing not to be victims. Yes the stats show there are still tens of thousands of victims every year in Europe with knife stabbings despite your draconian laws.
