Just read the Twitter CEO tell Wall Street that he blames the trolls for Tweeter's sluggish growth!

But then again, what do you really expect to happen when people want "followers"! LOL!!!

Like WHY would you want to be "followed" anyway!? Do you really want stalkers to follow you!?

I can see why the famous people (stars) are followed by the sheeople (fans, etc) and, therefore, trolls and stalkers become a side effect, but WHY would any average person also want to be followed?

..and it is not just Twitter! Many average people also seem to want to be followed on Facebook, Instagram, etc, etc!

Either case, I don’t want to be followed, so that’s why I don’t have a Tweeter or Facebook or Instagram account!

People like attention. That's why they want to be "followed" on social media.

So the Twitter CEO needs to figure out how to deal with the Internet stalkers, trolls, etc, since that's exactly what happens when one encourages followers...

The whole point of Twitter is to follow and be followed. People wouldn't be tweeting if there was nobody to read their tweets.

You can't really stalk someone from their twitter profile or tweets. It doesn't show when you're online and personal information is optional.

If someone is constantly tweeting sensitive information or their exact location (example: Eating lunch at Nebulous's burgers on 6th street in Dallas, Texas)...then yeah being stalked was their own fault.

The main problem is the trolling. They have a report button but they should have moderators patrolling for harassment too. Seems like it would be a tedious and enormous job though.

The way that I see it is if one really wants "followers" then the cyber stalkers and trolls also come along. So human moderation of a very large web site with millions of users is simply impossible and as such it also cannot scale!

No wonder Wall Street is already complaining about Twitter's growth...

Honestly though how often do you hear about people (stars) being stalked or harrassed by people. Not counting online trolls.

Personally I follow many start ups and larger companies and follow their growth. A lot of times twitter is where you here initial announements and rumours.

I agree. Social Media brings a whole new level to people's weird side.  :P

I tried Twitter for about a week .. Can't understand how people can sit around and write so much stuff about themselves. Do I care what someone is having for their dinner?
No
People have this need or something to announce to the world every little action they do.

Constant craving for affirmation
