I've seen it happen before on a Walking Dead forum I was a part of. It happened the way it usually happens, one person got banned and then all of his friend group basically revolted and all ragequit the forum. 
I was staff on a separate TWD forum and woke up one day to find all 7-8 had all moved over to the other forum and I was mad confused trying to figure out what happened over there.

I've seen it happen when a forum is sold or merged into another forum. Either they don't like the way the new owner does things or they find themselves merged into a different community that they didn't join, which might be uncomfortable / awkward at first.

I've seen it happen on forums that I was a member of.
I've never had it happen to one of my own.
I think at that point; it's safe to say that the admin lost control of their community.
At that point, the community might not have been meant to be a community.
