Do you have friends that stay/visit your house for free, eat for free and never offer a penny to help pay for anything?

I have a friend who asked if she could come visit me for a week. I was all happy she was coming. I had no time to shop before she arrived so I told her I had to go to the store to get food and whatever else we might need. She came shopping with me and started adding items to the cart. When we got to the checkout, she never took out her wallet.

I paid for EVERYTHING. The best part was when she was ready to go home. She asked me if I had a bag. I asked her what kind of bag. She said a grocery bag. I gave her the bag and she started filling it with the items she had put in the cart.

I asked her what she thought she was doing. She told me she picked these items because it would save her money next time she had to shop. I told her unless she was going to pay me for the items then she wasn't taking them home. She told me I was her guest and guests don't have to pay for anything. Needless to say we had words, and she is no longer invited to come and stay with me. Plus, she didn't get to take what I paid for home!

OMG that just being plain and utter rude! I'd NEVER do that!!

Firstly, this friend 'invited herself'. To me, although she was still a guest,

it is a different situation to 'being invited'.

If I 'invite' someone, then I don't mind footing the bill for the food,

although it 'is' nice and polite if the guest at least 'offers' to pay something.

If I can't afford to foot the bill for a weeks stay - then I wouldn't invite them

for a week.

On the other hand, if someone 'invites themselves', then it is only good manners

to help pay for the food. It would be a case of help with the cost or don't come.

In both cases though, food that the person intends to take home 'should' be

paid for seperately and by themselves. No way would I pay for the weeks

groceries they are taking home afterwards !!

Not really, if a friend stays over we usually get some take away and we pay for our own meal. Sometimes I cook for a girl, but then it doesn't matter that she doesn't pay.
