Breaking a mirror is the biggest fear for superstitious people on Friday 13th, research shows.

According to the research, over a third (34 per cent) of people will act with caution or look out for omens of good or bad luck this Friday.

The research, for Warner Bros, also reveals the nation's main superstitions.

The nation's top 10 fears, superstitions and signs of bad luck ranked in order of 'superstitiousness'

1. Breaking a mirror

2. Walking under a ladder

3. Friday 13th

4. Opening an umbrella indoors

5. A black cat crossing your path

6. The sight of a single magpie

7. Spilling salt

8. Placing shoes on the table or on the bed

9. Treading on cracks in the pavement

10. Walking over three drains

Question: Are you superstitious?

I have never even heard of some these and I wouldn't know a magpie if one landed on me.

walking over three drains? How about when you're driving?

Putting shoes on the bed?

Well... the list is British. So we'll just go with that and say it again- Them what's across the pond is a strange lot.

I'm not British and I've heard of all them except putting your shoes on the bed. I remember when I was small, I would never step on the cracks in the pavement. I think the saying was step on a crack and break your mothers back or something like that.

I am not superstitious and today is just another day for me.

I've heard of all of these. I keep a rabbits foot hanging on my doorframe and a pair of snake eyes.

In the some cultures shoes are never to be worn indoors, you always put the shoes on a dark corner of the floor - never on a chair, table, or bed.

About the bird, they call it a magpie - if it flies into your home through your window someone you know will die. It's an omen of death just like if someone's picture cracks.

About black cats, cats have always been seen as divine creatures as they have nine lives and their eyes can see into your soul.

Mirrors always pop up in legends, because like a picture it captures a person's soul. My grandfather used to tell me people who have sold their soul to the devil will not see their reflection.

My grandfather used to believe a lot in black magic and taught me about all of these superstitions as he was extremely superstitious. He told me a creepy story of a person who stole a ring from a woman who was reportedly a witch. The thing was that she had put a hex on the ring, and as the man was feeling the sensation coming from his fingers up through his arm. The man tried but couldn't remove the ring, in the end he cut off his whole arm to stop the curse from coming to his whole body.

Nope, not superstitious.

The only reason I even took note this time was because I wanted the award
