Gail Simone took to Twitter today to announce that she will no longer be the writer on Batgirl after having been sent an email from editor Brian Cunningham. According to her recent posts, it appears that issue #17 will be her final issue for the series, arriving shortly after the Death of the Family crossover wraps up next year.
The news has shocked many of DC's loyal fans as Simone as shared a lengthy history with the character of Barbara Gordon, writing a great deal of canon for the popular member of the Bat-family in the pre-New 52 Birds of Prey while Barbara was still known as the wheelchair-bound Oracle.
