And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.

If they were the first why would it say replenish and not just multiply and stock the earth?

The bible was originally written in Greek and because of that it can cause confusion simply because English and Greek don't have the same words.

Example of this would be the fact English only has one word for love which is well love. Greek on the other hand has FOUR words for love that all have a different meaning in the type of love expressed. I wouldn't be surprised if this is an example of that issue playing itself out which is misconstrued as an "error"or something to that effect.
