Anyone got any Gerbils? Ever had any? What do you think of them as pets?

I had two Gerbils when I was a kid, Pikachu and Riachu; they were nice, but didn't really do much. I now have two more named Ratchet and Clank who are more active (probably because they're young). Ratchet's lovely and likes crawling on my hand, but Clank just bites me.

I've never had Gerbils as pets. They're cute and all but I guess I'm just not into them. I love the names you have given to all your Gerbils. Bad Clank!

Haha, I'm not very good with names and I'm a gamer so...

To be honest though, it was my girlfriend's fault for the two new guys names; I was going to make extra effort to give them "proper" names, and she was like "Jak and Daxter"; I felt Ratchet and Clank would be better. :P

I think you made a wise choice in their names.

Thank you! :)

I'm going to try and tame Clank later. If I return later and make load of spelling mistakes, assume he's torn my hand to pieces and I'm in too much agony to bother pressing the backspace key.

Stick my gloved hand in the cage and see if I can get him to not bite it. Alternatively, let him bite it for ages and eventually he'll get bored and realize I'm not a threat.

Could it possibly be that he's afraid of the glove and that's why he bites?

Possibly, I'm not sure. The other one doesn't seem to mind, so I guess it's just his personality and he likes biting things.

He's probably petrified of the glove. My Blue Fronted Amazon parrot NEVER bites. She will, however, if the vet comes at her wearing gloves.

He does the same with my hand though, which is why I wear the glove!
Maybe he's trying to tell you to leave him alone!

I dont think they sell them in my area. Just hamsters, rats and rabbits is all I see at the pet stores as far as small furry animals goes.
