I got fired once, due to hitting my team manager. He was asking for it.
Define "trouble". I got called to my superior's office a couple of times, usually when someone else tried to drop me into the pool of proverbial feces to cover up for their own incompetence and laziness, and I called them out on it. Fascinating.
My coworkers, both IT Technicians, same as I am, have teamed up on me from day one. They always take vacations at the same time, go to sick leaves at the same time, have been on a male version of maternal leave at the same time, take breaks at the same time, always spend twice as much of the allowed break time, purposely ignore reported problems for years, do their job half-assed, and generally have a 'why should I do this job for such low salary' attitude, so they slack, but at the same time refuse to find better jobs and quit.
We had a temporary substitute tech for awhile, during their maternity leave time, and the man managed to earn my respect. Despite being completely clueless about the job when he started, he made an effort to learn, to become good at it. Nothing was beneath him, no chore, no matter how big or small. Too bad he had to leave when the other two returned to work. Now it's business as usual. They slack and avoid responsibility while I take proverbial feces from our superiors.
And atop of that, I have been told several times that I'm free to leave elsewhere if I have a problem with the way things are done. If I could get a better, higher paying job, I would do exactly that.
Put in for time off when its just you left to handle everything.Exactly. Game the system. They're doing what the system allows them to do as the government employees.
Take accounting department, for example. We have 5 employees there, so when one or two are missing, the rest of them can evenly distribute their workload among themselves. But, when 2 of 3 IT Techs are constantly absent and the whole workload falls on the remaining one (me), then we can safely say we've pulled Apollo 13 maneuver and have a problem. Bosses don't care one bit, of course, as long as the job gets done.
He said a certain Dutch word...that was enough for me. Insults nope not with me.Oh yeah, what were the circumstances leading up to that?
I hate when people who suck try to make others look bad to get the spotlight off of them.

Thats very lenient of them. Around here they'd just fire you if you tested positive. I'm not sure how they handle testing positive for marijuana these days since its legal. There is some grey area because its legal in the state of California but still federally illegal. I think employers can still fire you if they are against marijuana and choose to do that to their employees. My current employer doesn't drug test so thats why I don't know much about it.I got caught with cannabis in my system. Got two weeks paid leave while they did an ''investigation'', came back and explained my case. First and final warning, kept my job for another 3 years until i quit. Fun times.

Did they test you a lot after that?I was quite lucky. It was a full-time job but they could have shown me the door because it was breach of contract. I'm quite innocent though and know how to talk so I think the attitude I went in with and took it on the chin it gave them a bit of respect for me. Didn't help me though I was a nervous wreck, had just purchased a house.
I think my saving grace was I knew I was going to be positive and called my boss and explained to him. He said that carried alot of weight.
Moral of the story, no matter how sick you are of your job, don't wake and Bake.
Well you're one tough cookie! Lasting 20 years with a horrible boss, thats resilience.Practically every day as I worked for the boss from Hell. The situation was not helped by a simple minded colleague who was forever telling lies about me. On one occasion, I wasn't even there when the alleged incident happened.
I lasted 20 years in the job. Some didn't make 20 minutes.
Did they move straight to write-ups or did they talk to you verbally first to try and correct the situation that way?Yes, not due to anything silly. Some of it was due to mistakes with coupons and stuff which did get me written up. I actually got written up twice and my third one would have left me terminated.
