A 12-year-old girl has been arrested after allegedly trying to poison her mother twice because her iPhone was taken away.

Police in Boulder, Colorado, said a mother noticed a bleach smell in her finished smoothie and soon fell sick.

But authorities said when the sickness passed and she noticed the same smell coming from a jug of water in her room, she confronted her daughter – who told her she was trying to kill the woman for confiscating her iPhone.

‘It’s pretty scary,’ Commander Heidi Prentum, of Boulder County Police, told KDVR.

The girl is now being held at the Juvenile Center on two charges of attempted first-degree murder.

A neighbour, Luciana Cordova, said: ‘It seems a little bit of an outrageous reaction to having your phone taken away, but I think it’s also reflecting of how our teens and our kids are so dependent on that, that they’d be willing to those extremes.’

In your opinion, what should happen to this 12 year old?

She's too young to be just thrown in some kind of jail/prison setting, so she needs some kind of rehabilitation and family intervention. This doesn't happen simply out of the blue.  She was taught (or not taught) to become this way in some form either by negligent parenting relying on the use of technology to babysit and ignoring warning signs that there was trouble with the daughter.  There is no way in hell the mom could say, "I had no idea she would do this".  There has to be some sort of link she missed because she's an idiot who raised an immature, disturbed child.

I have to disagree, I have 3 teenage boys and I can tell you categorically that they hit a certain age where they are under intense pressure from school and hormones and their personality changes radicaly, I do agree that prison is not the way to solve and rehabilitate the young girl but I would not be in a hurry to blame the parent, The boss and I have always been fair but firm with our boys but when the two oldest went through that tough time we had a lot of deeply unpleasant crap to deal with from them and still am from the middle boy who is normal a kind and funny lad but not currently.

From reading this. Sounds like the mom should just slap in her in a mental institution for a few months. I think anyone who tries to kill their parent over stupid and immature petty reasons needs professional health and strong medication if not a prison sentence for life over attempted murder.
