Plot: After the death of Emperor Marcus Aurelius, his devious son takes power and demotes Maximus, one of Rome's most capable generals who Marcus preferred. Eventually, Maximus is forced to become a gladiator and battle to the death against other men for the amusement of paying audiences.



 
One of my all time favorite films, I can easily watch it again and again. Looking forward to seeing how they do with the sequel, though I'm a tad apprehensive.

Sequels are a slippery slope these days when it comes to ancient classics. I hope they do right by the original.
 
This is one movie I've never seen although I've always wanted to because of Richard Harris :o
