Do you ever eat food that has gone past the eat-by / expiry date?

Ever gotten sick from that or were you fine every time?

How long past the expiry date would you eat food?

Depends on the food. If it's chocolate I'll still eat it.

A few years ago, they opened a small store next to a larger supermarket near my house. Essentially, what this small store was was a place for all the larger supermarket's marked-down food products and items about to be written off (you'd also find some items I'd never seen around anyplace anywhere). The store closed down in less than a year, but I enjoyed it. I would find off-brand drinks or Mexican snacks I'd never seen before (more expensive candies like the Ferrero Rocher would also be like 75% marked down). I am not saying it's the healthiest decision, just saying I did it. Haha.

Depends on the food, some foods are labeled with expiry/best by dates that just don't match up to the product itself.
Exactly. They're meant to show the food at it's very best standard, and not necessarily when it becomes bad or safe to eat.

Yes.
No - fine every time.
Like the others have said, depends on the food. Milk products need to pass the smell test; cold cereals, due to countless preservatives, last forever.

We have a store like that, thats exactly what they do. Here's their website: https://www.groceryoutlet.com

Never heard of the brand names they have there. If they do have something name-brand, its about to expire. Its chain store, I don't think they are nation-wide but they are all over around here.

Anyway, I wont eat any dairy or uncooked meat after its expired, but most other stuff is fair game. I'll smell and sample a small bit of it first to see its okay.

Depends what it is. Like fruit or veggies if it still looks fine I will. Anything dairy nope.

It really depends on the kind of food it is. For things, such a fruit, and vegetables I will eat those past their expiry date when it comes to things like dairy such as milk, cheese, butter, and yogurts I will not eat those past their sell-by dates.
Aren't sell-by and expiration dates two different things?

Google says:
How long do you have after the sell by date?
Stores use this date to know when to remove products from shelves. You can eat food after the sell-by date. For example, dairy products are good for 1 week after the sell-by date. Eggs are safe for 3 to 5 weeks after the sell-by date.

Yeah, same with Best Buy dates, those don't mean it's bad after that date, just that they're no longer peak freshness.

We have entire stores that are dedicated to selling foods that are near or at the sell-by date. Usually at a discount.

Yep, I use them frequently, best way to save a few dollars. Bakery outlets, too, LOVE bakery outlets! 1/3 of the price of stores.
We used to have those bakery outlets all over the place but they've all mysteriously gone under.
