Should the government do more to support small businesses and start-ups?

What could they do?

Should they? Of course, it'd be lovely to see more small businesses succeeding, but what could they possibly do? Subsidize them? Give them tax breaks? No one would be happy with that, so I'm not sure there's a solution. It's unfortunate because we're losing variety to convenience.

I'd like to see something like that, but most people don't seem to like the idea of offering anyone a tax break these days.
I am sure certain companies would take advantage of that as well. Run for 5 years then close up and start a new business with a new name to keep using the tax breaks offered to "new" companies.

Yeah, there'd have to be some way to regulate that, somehow.
