Will governments like China and North Korea continue to be able to control their citizens' access to the Internet and social media?

Do you think that will ever happen in European countries or in North America?

They can try, but there are tools to help with that ;)

I think we will see portions of control being used. We already do. Social media will place fact check notices on content for specific topics, rules on social may automatically get your content removed, governments can access your private information through various acts with very little probable cause.

I don't think it will ever be on a level like China or Russia but I'm sure some control will be pushed further.

Will European and American people let it happen, though?
