A hand me down is something you inherit from someone else after they no longer need or want it.

With that said, I have a story for you that just happened this morning. My friend called me this morning very upset. Her little girl wiil be starting kindergarten in a few weeks. My friend and her husband have no money to spare for new clothes for their daughter. Another friend had stopped by earlier with a big box of hand-me-down clothes that her daughter has outgrown. I took at look at the clothes and some of them look almost brand new. My friends daughter saw the clothes and started screaming and yelling. She told her mom she wasn't going to wear garbage clothes to school. While I felt bad for the mom, I have to say I know how the daughter feels. When I was growing up, my dad had no extra money either to buy me new clothes. I always was dressed in hand-me-downs but always looked nice. Since they weren't my clothes to begin with, they were new to me.

Question: Did you ever have to wear hand-me-downs too?

A few, but being the oldest not a real lot.

Not sure if you have a brother(s) but if you do, do they get your hand-me-down clothes?

I think most people get to wear hand-me-downs. I inherited my brothers old t-shirts when I was little, although not his jeans, lol, as he was so tall. My sister was then given all my old stuff.

Likewise my son, when he was born, was given some clothes by friends that their baby's had grown out of. He also had lots of new clothes. My daughter inherited his baby clothes plus we got her some dresses and pink clothes. Even now, she still wears some of his old t-shirts.

Kids grow so fast that clothes are usually grown out of before they've had too much wear. They can be quite expensive too, so recycling them is a good thing to do.

I have an older brother but I never got his old clothes growing up. He is 6 years older so there was too large of a gap in time for me to inherit his clothes. By the time I'd fit his stuff, they'd be all old and eaten by moths. Lol

I wore hand me downs from a older cousin for years until l outgrew him.

I have 2 older sisters so I never got hand me downs but I did give my little brother some of my old clothes.

My brother is five years older than me, so I didn't get much of it. We also had different tastes, and I was quite the prick and didn't want to wear his clothes...

But mainly it was just too far of a gap, like in Nebulous's case.

Never, I'm an only child. I do remember a couple of cousins who got my clothes though. I perfectly get how the girl feels, even though I wouldn't want expensive clothes, new ones from a cheaper brand are most welcome.
