Being a 22-inch-tall adult makes it hard to buy clothes, drive a car and do many other things, but it's not without advantages.
Khagendra Thapa Magar of Nepal turns 18 on Thursday and is now eligible to be the Guinness World Records title holder as the world's shortest man.
Magar is five full inches shorter than 27-inch-high Colombian Edward Nino Hernandez, who held the record for only a few weeks.
Magar weighs only 11 pounds and loves to show off his dancing and martial arts abilities when he's not consuming his daily intake of 3½ ounces of food.
Khagendra has been recognized by Ripley's Believe It or Not for years as the smallest person known to exist over the age of 2, said Edward Meyer, Ripley's vice president of exhibits and archives.
While doctors haven't determined why Magar is so small, a pituitary disorder is suspected as the cause of his short stature.
It's crazy to think a human being could get any shorter, Guinness Editor-in-Chief Craig Glenday said, recognizing that the shortest man record is about to change by 5 inches.
As he prepares to grab the tiny title and travel the world as Ripley's new star, Magar will take advantage of his pint-sized notoriety to help his home country increase its annual tourism: He was recently named Nepal's goodwill ambassador.
