I want to share a true life story with you. Last night when I went into work, I was paged to the front Reception Desk. When I arrived in the reception area, I noticed there was a guy sitting in one of the chairs. His back was to me and I really, at that point, gave him no further thought. I asked the receptionist why she paged me. She said There's someone here that wants to talk to you. The guy sitting stood up and started to approach the desk. I noticed he had a motorcycle helmet in one of his hands. He asked: Do you remember me? I kept looking at him but could not place him. I was honest and told him Sorry but I don't recall meeting you before. He then said My name is Rick and the last time you saw me, you were scraping me off the pavement. Remember the guy riding his bike and got cut off and hit by a pickup truck two months ago? I'm that guy. I was like OMG, he made it! At the scene of the accident, there was doubt in my mind he would survive the injuries he substained. He was flown out by Life Flight and that's the last I saw him.
He then said I will never forget you. You told me in the back of the ambulance about how you ride a bike too. You told me one day, I'd ride again side by side with you. I didn't really believe you but appreciated the support you were offering me. I came here tonight to tell you I am riding again and I wanted to give you something.
He handed me what looked like a small card wrapped in tissue paper. When I opened it, I couldn't help but cry and give him a big hug. Here is a picture (not taken by me) of what was wrapped in the tissue:
We have decided that next weekend we will meet and ride side by side. This is truly a happy ending to a horrible accident that could have killed him.
