Should hate speech be protected under freedom of speech laws? Why or why not?

No. Speech designed to cause harm, whether mental or through provoking physical action, is dangerous and disgusting. Having been on the end of it, I see no reason for it to be protected under "freedom of speech" as it has no purpose but to cause harm.

What the government term hate speech is when people call them out for their mismeandor. But if a speech is truly designed to be malicious, it should be dealt with. It shouldn't be protected of it truly is hate speech and not politically defined hate speech.

The problem with banning it, is that people have different opinions on what does and doesn’t count, and the pendulum swings in both directions.

One day you agree with it, but then when the guard changes, now you’re on the receiving end
