Just wondering how many people here have been affected by crime in any way and what the story was behind it?

At 16 YO, I was a victim of "kidnap, assault, and attempted rape". Even though there was stronger evidence for the assault and attempted rape, the Deputy DA bargained it down to "kidnapping", because it was a federal crime and, therefore, carried the stiffest punishment.

After preliminary hearing testimony, he pleaded guilty to the charge. He was given 3 months work-furlough (he had to spend nights and weekends in jail).

Yeah...that was the stiffest penalty...in 1976.

Wonder what he would have got for that today.

Sorry to hear that happened to you but glad you made it out okay.

One time I went to start my car and I thought the battery was dead, I popped the hood and it was gone (stolen). :@

Yes, back in the day we used to thumb rides everywhere.....one time I was fighting with my bf so I thumbed to a friends house...after a night of serious drinking I thumbed back home to where I was living with my bf at the time....we lived in RI and I was on the highway.....a man picked me up, seemed nice enough...said he needed to drop something off and if I went for the ride he'd drive me all the way home....I said ok but after we turned off into a very woodsy area I knew I was in trouble.....he stopped the car and proceeded to drag me out he was beating e and trying to tear my clothes off

I knew he was going to rape me so I fought like hell....I saw another car coming in the distance and managed to get away from the guy, I literally threw myself in front of the oncoming car screaming hysterically

The other car stopped and let me get in ...my clothes were all torn and I was bruised and bleeding but the man made me get out when he got to the highway, said he was going the other way.....I was terrorfied, I walked several miles and came upon a state trooper who was using a radar speed detector on the side of the road...I ran over to him...I was hysterical again when I saw him...I told him what happened...begged him for a ride, I don't know if he thought I was drunk or what but he blew me off...told me he was "not a cab service"

Still can't believe a cop would behave like that..especially considering I looked like I had been assaulted and told him what had happened.....I had no choice but to thumb the rest of the way. I was not raped but words can't explain how scared I was...this happened when I was 17.,,

I remember those days when you could hike and pickup hikers but these days doing either is just asking for trouble. Sounds like you were lucky not to end up worse than what you did.
