You can let them crawl on your hand, but I don't. I've played with them some, but I view them just as you'd view fish, they're cool to have, but they're not man's best friend.

I used to have 3 shells for when I only had one hermit crab, but now since I have two more, I've put 4 more in there, so 6 shells in total. They switch a lot too.
