How do I fix this error message?

I have a taskbar item that until today ran fine.



When I click the item that's boxed in black:

I get the following error message:

I don't know what caused the problem. I hope that someone can help with a possible solution to fix this problem.

I don't know if this will work, but it's worth a try.

Close all your programs.



Then go to the Task Manager.

Go to processes.

Find explorer.exe

Right click -> End Process (or End Process Tree).

Then hard restart your computer. (I normally do this by pulling out the battery and power cord.)



Anyways, that might work.

Good luck fixing it

Is it any .exe file or just explorer? Because if it's any .exe file there's something wrong with your registry.

The actual article doesn't work for most people, but one person posted something in the comments about a program called file association fixer v 1.0 which seems to work pretty well.
