Do you ban them or just ignore them?

I try ignore them as much as possible and I’ll only ban if I have no choice, holding out for as long as possible to give them enough rope to hang themselves with.

My community has a warning system. If they get to out of hand they will be warned to the point they will be banned for a week. If the behavior continues, a month ban, and again if it continues a full permanent ban. So a 3 strikes you're out kind of thing!
Would you be willing to lift bans early if they apologise?

It would all depend on what they did, if it was flaming, trolling, or just being rude yes. If it was bullying, racism, homophobic, or any type of hate towards a member then no. I believe, that everyone has a right to be who they are. And living in a world where there are people that are scared of the unknown is not fair to them. I want a place where they can go and be themselves and not get picked on for it. Believe me I should know I battle mental illness everyday with depression and anxiety. So I know what these people go through

Agreed - curious on your views on cancel culture and your approach to dealing with mistrust

I think you need to evaluate the person's behavior and actions in context of the forums guidelines.

You can have a high functioning psychopath who is aggressive in his posting, and maybe that's okay in context of a gaming forum where it might be okay to flame.

I don't really do anything unless they are being extremely disruptive and making everyone else have a bad experience on the forum.

Unless they're breaking the rules and being a nuisance I don't see what can be done. Being proactive against people who have not broken your rules has always been a problem for forums that do that. It's best just to be reactive and wait until they post something that violates the boundaries of a community and then take disciplinary action. Banning people just because you don't like them can kill your forum faster than anything. Best to always approach cautiously.
