Off Topix: Embrace the Unexpected in Every Discussion

Off Topix is a well established general discussion forum that originally opened to the public way back in 2009! We provide a laid back atmosphere and our members are down to earth. We have a ton of content and fresh stuff is constantly being added. We cover all sorts of topics, so there's bound to be something inside to pique your interest. We welcome anyone and everyone to register & become a member of our awesome community.

How do you keep members interested?

Keep posting topics, adding new features/mods/contests every couple months, try to establish a friendship/relationship with the members (even though that can be impossible with some some people).

you need threads that make people interact together

2 weeks ago i added a 'trivia quiz' same as on here..............people are loving it.....calling me names cos i set it at 'hard' every now and then but they love it

always found a 'hello' or 'general chat' thread works good too...somewhere for everyone to say hello and chat

I don't own a forum but here's my thoughts:

Post interesting debate topics where members can interact with each other.

Keep the forum drama free.

Staff members should be friendly, participate and be approachable.

Do not over moderate the forum.

Every reported post requires a reply back from a staff member.

Be open to suggestions from members on how to improve the forum.

Hold contests and keep making improvements.

Limit the amount of forum games as no member wants to hit new posts and that's all that come up.

I'm thinking that's what we should do on ours is limit the amount of forum games. My staff loves those, but you'd be amazed at how many members (including myself) are not very fond of them. I'm thinking about making that into a kind of rule. Yes, we are general chat, but that doesn't mean one should bump up his post count by playing forum games all day either.
