You Sugar Coat the Truth



You are honest, but you can't help but spin things a little bit when the truth is going to hurt.

Yes, you will omit facts from time to time when you need to. You're still being honest even if you don't tell the whole story.



And okay, you'll admit it... you tell a little white lie every now and then. If people's feelings are at stake, you will spare them the truth.

You don't think that makes you a liar. It just means you have tact and compassion!





Looking back I think this is very true for me. It happens a lot where the truth will open a can of worms, so I might sugar coat it. I don't believe in lying but I feel that sometimes it's better not say what I really feel. Being brutally honest has never worked for me in the past and has only gotten me in trouble with the people close to me.

I try to be honest with everybody. Including my wife. Which raises an interesting issue.



Riddle me this...



If a married man is asked by his wife do you think the new Miss America is prettier than I am?



Of course the honest answer is yes.



But how is he supposed to answer?



If he says No, she will know he is lying and be mad for a week because she'll wonder what else he's lied about. (including the infamous 'do I look fat' question)





If he says Yes, she will be mad for a week because he looked at another woman and thought she was pretty.





If he feigns deafness she will be mad for a week because she had to repeat the question three times to get an answer she didn't like.



If he suddenly falls over dead from the stress induced by worrying about how to answer, she'll still be mad for a week.



So, how should he answer?
