It seems to get on people's bad side, unless your mimicking what's popular.
However, some might view that stance as cowardly.

Well, is it more about the delivery? Should the speaker even be concerned?

Do you feel a hot topic section isn't worth the damage to the pure image you may have? Well, some celebs might avoid politics for that reason.

It's when people run out of facts and real information instead of opinions that the discussions begin to decline and then comes the name calling. That's when there really is no more true discussion and it's not worth continuing at that point. There are people who CAN stick to the point and those types of discussions are nice to read about online because then there is some learning going on.

From what I've seen with several debates and from personal experience. There's always one person making fallacious claims that doesn't hold up. Because their whole argument is based on sophistry, not providing empirical and objective evidence in the form of facts, and not pulling articles from credible sources to support and back their claims.

When the one making unsubstantiated claims fails, they stoop to making Argumentum Ad Hominem attacks, repeatedly claiming their argument is infallible, evading questions, deflecting, and continuing with their sophistry.

At which point, I think staff needs to get involved and bar that member from the thread because it is no longer a debate. They're spreading misinformation. The losing member has become a troll because they're upset or enraged because no one bought into their absurdities and told them they were wrong and tried to correct them.

If I am a lawyer, it will be a never-ending debate. Since I am not this person, I will be lost.
