How was your last blood test?

I hate blood tests, or rather I hate needles. My last one went good but I still didn't enjoy getting pricked lol.

It's been a while since I had a check-up. I used to go almost every three months because I was frequently at the doctor for other reasons, so I thought, why not?

The results were usually good, except for some vitamin deficiencies. No matter how well I ate, my body didn’t absorb them properly. I eat quite healthily most of the time, with a few exceptions like everyone else.

I've managed to improve things now, especially my vitamin D levels, thanks to high dose supplements.
I also had some issues with iron levels. Other than that, everything was good.

I need to schedule another check-up soon and request additional tests that aren't included in a standard panel, like a Complete Blood Count. A few years ago, I was a bit low in some areas but still okay. I'll ask to include these and a few others again, not because most are a problem, but because it's been so long. Everything else, like cholesterol and other standard measures, has always been good.

I am an indoors person so my Vitamin D is usually low and I have to take pills to raise it back up.

It took place last Thursday - although, I still haven't heard the results from it.

It was to test for allergens (they believe I have a food allergy of some kind, but don't know which food I'm allergic to). Hopefully, this will shed some light on the issue!

I am only interested in seeing my A1C and Cholesterol.
Yeah, those are my two biggies, too, though there's a couple other numbers I keep a watch on as well. Probably need to get PSA checked again (family history that has so far not shown up in me).

My last blood was good. My A1C has been in the controlled range for so long, doc is letting me go longer between tests now.

It is possible to have low vitamin D levels even if you spend a lot of time outdoors. When I was at my worst, I was outdoor a lot

I understand that factors such as location, age, weight, the time of day, and melanin levels can affect vitamin D levels and yield different results.

Despite being outdoors during the day, in both summer and winter, and without sunscreen, I still experienced nearly severe vitamin D deficiency.

My vitamin D is low too, so I have to too. My iron is low too. I sometimes get infusions for that.

Last blood test, was like a week ago. I see several doctors and they all always want blood tests. XD Though this was to check if I was good for a minor surgery I got coming up.

In fact gotta get another one this week for some upcoming appointments. They usually keep an eye on several things, but often my iron and stuff.

I go for mine next week.

My first thought was: "why would anyone want to know?"

unless......

I take medication for my cholesterol as I was dealing with high cholesterol last year, but it has been stabilized for a while now with the help of medications and new diet.

I have blood tests for several different factors. My most recent ones showed:

A1C of 6.1
Anion Gap was high, showing a level of metabolic acidosis
RDW-SD was high for the the fourth consecutive month, showing anemic.
Testosterone count was a nicely suppressed
Estrogen nice at female range.

I got my results :) .

No news on the allergen front - but, I do have very low Vitamin D levels. So, I've been prescribed a supplement to help with that :) .

That seems to be quite a common situation, my Vitamin D is also consistently low, lol. Glad you got some supplements to get them up again!

My blood test is Monday.

The beginning of 2024 my Cholesterol was 185. If it is over 200, in a few days, the fast food stops.

I last had a blood test a few weeks ago and it came back fine. I had to receive three different blood tests in just a few months just to check for so many things only to find out what I was telling my doctor was actually the case.

^ That is sadly the case with women in general, and especially us Black women.. they love to ignore us, even though we are known for having good intuition.. but luckily for me, mine is absolute fire as my Drs. have pretty much commended me on the fact that even though I came to them with my suspicions and their findings have confirmed them.

It's not that I am trying to be a Dr. or am some kind of hypochondriac, but I spent the better part of a decade and change playing wack-a-mole between my insurance companies and providers and there have been some serious lapses in care for that reason.. and so, I have had no choice but to become even savvier in my searches regarding my health as I am with just about everything else. I am VERY concerned with the effect my last apt had on my health as it had been making me sick since I moved there back in 2001.

At any rate, my last blood test came back a little spicy, and my Drs. were ready to call the cops on me because it wasn't mine and was indeed tabasco sauce..

But kidding aside, I will probably get another blood test sooner than later.

I had a blood test for my thyroid levels last month and I'm in my sweet spot :)
