We often talk about what we like to eat, but what about how we store our fruit

Do you keep them all together in a fruit bowl, store them in the fridge, or separate them to prevent them from spoiling faster? (There are more reasons, but let's not get into all of them.)

In the cold months we have a little lean-to room built onto the house that we keep the heat set to not go below 40F. That's where I keep most of the produce. Apples, citrus, pears, melons & some veggies as well: potatoes, carrots, yams, onions.
During the warmer weather I keep most of those 'staples' in the refrigerator.
Year round - I have a little styrofoam picnic cooler that I keep fresh ice jugs in for the bananas. We eat bananas most every day so I like to buy them green & several bunches at a time & let them slowly ripen; I know there's some scientific reason but the refrigerator turns them at any stage of ripeness brown/black but the picnic cooler with ice does not.

That's a good way to keep everything fresh(y)
How cold your house is in winter if you don’t use any heating?

Lately, I’ve been storing most of my fruits and some veggies in a spare room. It’s ideal since no one uses it, and I keep the blinds closed to keep it dark. During summer, I had the aircon running throughout the house but kept that room slightly cooler. Now that it’s autumn, I’ve turned off the aircon everywhere except there. Once it gets colder, I’ll switch it off in that room too but start using heating in the rest of the house.:p
I have noticed this helps fruits last much longer. They don’t need to stay fresh forever, just a bit over a week is enough.

I don’t buy a lot of fruit, but it’s always nice to have some on hand when I feel like it. Still, I make sure not to store them all together, as some release ethylene gas, which can cause others to spoil faster, like , apples, bananas, and avocados release a lot of this gas, so I keep them separate from fruits like berries, grapes, or citrus, which don’t produce as much. Keeping them separated helps them stay fresh longer.

Oh...This little store-room was built on by a previous owner as a "lean-to" style attached to the house and it has it's own personal heater...not part of the heating/cooling of the rest of the house. So, totally separate controls.

Ahhh, yes, we're not QUITE Eskimos  & keep the house at about 68F or 70F in the daytime - - about 60F at nite. :)

That's a great idea the previous owner had! :)

For me, I love that I can control the aircon separately in each room instead of having just one system. I don’t need to cool or heat areas I don’t use. If it weren’t for my cat making it hard to keep doors closed, I’d be able to shut down even more of the aircon.
Anyway, I guess my spare room is similar to that.
Under the bed, since it's a bit taller and lots of space, I store boxes, and that’s where a lot of things go. I need to get some boxes with wheels to make it easier to move them around.

This made me laugh when I saw that. But yeah, I was just curious about how cold the house gets without any heating..
