A girl who sent birthday invites to her classmates didn’t get any responses.

But Mackenzie Moretter, 10, was shocked when hundreds turned up at the party in Shakopee, Minnesota, after her mother posted a message on Facebook.

Jenny told CBS Minnesota: ‘I want so much for Mackenzie to belong and for her to have friends and people to accept her for who she is.’

She added: ‘I thought to myself, it is not going to happen again this year.’

Jenny has Sotos Syndrome which prevented her skull from forming properly and caused brain damage.

She’s often on her own in the playground and other children, for whatever reason, don’t tend to socialize with her.

More than 700 people signed up to the event and the party ended up being held in a local park because so many attended.

It even attracted the attention of the town’s mayor who declared it Mackenzie Moretter Day.

Her mother added: ‘I’m overwhelmed with emotions, my heart has been touched by so many stories similar to mine or just people wishing her a happy birthday. I will never be able to thank you all enough for your kindness.

‘I will not remember all your names or I may forget what was said or done, but just know I am so incredibly grateful and blessed that you cared about my daughter. Love to all.’

Her classmates and their parents should be ashamed. Happy to know there are still kindhearted people in this world and they made this birthday one Mackenzie will never forget.

Awwwww...what a great story!!! It's nice to see human nature at its finest, especially after seeing it at its worst!

Okay this is beautiful.
Sucks she had to go through it but beautiful that people came out in support of her and all those presents :) You go girl! :p
