One man never imagined he would spend his life savings on a giant stuffed banana with dreadlocks.

Henry Gribbohm, 30, lost $2600 – his entire savings – on a game called Tubs of Fun at a Manchester, NH., carnival. He wanted to win an Xbox Kinect (retail value of around $100), but quickly lost $300 on the game when the balls he tossed, bounced out of the tubs. Instead of cutting his losses, he went home to get the rest of his savings, which he lost as well in a few rounds of double or nothing.

“You just get caught up in the whole ‘I’ve got to win my money back,’” Gribbohm told CBS. “You’re expecting the kids to win a few things, let the kids have a good time,” Gribbohm said. “It just didn’t turn out that way.”

Man loses life savings on fairground stall

A US man has lodged a complaint with police after losing his life savings on a fairground stall and winning only a giant banana with dreadlocks.

Henry Gribbohm, 30, of Epson, New Hampshire, says he lost over $2,600 (£1,670) on the carnival game which he now believes was rigged.

He told WBZ-TV he was trying to win an Xbox Kinect for his kids on the $5 a go ball throwing game called Tubs of Fun.

He lost $300 then went home to fetch another $2,300 - all the money he had - to try to win it back.

"They explained to me I was going to get all my money back," he said, "I was going to get an Xbox Kinect... They lied to me."

He returned to the carnival, run by Fiesta Shows, the next day to complain, and the game operator gave him $600 and a large stuffed banana with a hat and dreadlocks.

The operator said that was "all they could do" for him, Mr Gribbohm told the New Hampshire Union Leader.

Mr Gribbohm contacted local police, and officers are now investigating to see if any fraud occurred.

What an idiot. If he had the money, then why not just go buy one? :s

Score one for the banana!

he does not deserve to have money.....

RE: Man loses life savings on fairground stall

Some people are beyond stupid.

RE: Man loses life savings on fairground stall

Okay... here is the thing.

He's just a dummy with a gambling addiction.

I have a policy when I go gambling or to a place where I plan to spend money. I never bring more money with me than I'm willing to lose. To the casinos, I bring 20 dollars and play the penny slots.

I don't like casinos anyway. I usually go because my family is going and I don't wanna be the person who looks like a jerk saying I'm going to stay home.

RE: Man loses life savings on fairground stall

People who are addicted to something aren't stupid. Addiction can be very powerful to break once it takes root in your life as your mind makes it appear that you can't live if you don't get X even if everyone can see that is not true. Throwing around insults like stupid in regards to addiction says more about your lack of sense then his.

What this man needs is help and not the callous judgment of others who are no better then him only different by way of what faults they have or have had to overcome in their life.

RE: Man loses life savings on fairground stall

Im surprised he was able to save $2600 in the first place. He seems pretty irresponsible, stop playing after you lose a couple times.. Thats what I do.

Whatever happened to taking your kids to the park? The kids get to have a blast AND its free. :P
