Have you ever used the ignore feature on a forum? If so, why?

I agree with you Dragon. On one forum I had a psycho following me and posting stuff to bait me. The staff told me to put her on ignore. There was no way I was going to do that and not know what crap she was posting about me.

Why wouldn't the staff just remove the person entirely from the forum? What sort of good comes from someone who you could label as psycho?

Those are the types that you would call bullies in RL. The type who throw out subtle comments designed to get you to throw a punch so to speak at them so they can turn around and get staff to slap YOU with the punishment while they get to walk away as the victim. It's not all that surprising to see staff be completely blind to it and not realize who the real troublemaker is as it's oftentimes difficult for people outside of the bully and the real victim to see what's really going on.

That forum thrived on drama. The more drama, the more it grew. It got so bad there that if I even tried to stand up for myself, I would get a warning. The staff could read all the lies and crap the psycho was posting not only about me but about others she didn't like. When she got reported, she played the victim card and the staff always was on her side. Needless, to say myself and several other top posters got fed up and left.

Ive never used it. I'd think conversations would not make sense if parts of it were missing.

Nope. I would rather know what they are saying and doing than be blind and unaware.

this.

Then there's the whole moderator thing... can't go around ignoring people now can I?

I have some signatures on ignore due to the size of them.

Yes, on a rock forum years ago there was a christian who preached on almost every topic. Stirred alot too, caused alot of aruguments so I blocked him.

When I was more active on Gaiaonline I put several members on ignore. I did this to members who spam posted images while not even addressing the topic in question. I got sick of having to load all their images while trying to read a thread.

Never ignored anyone. I've only really been active in 3 forums (including this one).

One was a support forum which involved helping people with web design and coding (html, css, and xhtml). I couldn't afford to ignore anyone. For the sake of efficient support, I had to be very patient and listen to everyone (which is why I retired from there

).

The other forum was a reviews community that consisted of a very small group of people. I considered everyone there like a cyber family and I had no reason to ignore anyone.
