I've hit a small road bump when it comes to getting the application process going with the community residence.

My counselor wants to make sure that all financial aspects can be met before I go and apply for the community residence so she wants me to put up a list of questions for them.

I'll put up what I have. If you have other questions (that relate to finances), please let me know and I will be sure to add them to my current list.

If you think a question I have can be better phrased, let me know too.

I want to be sure that I am financially ready to apply and move into a community residence. If you can, please help me with the process as best you can.

What would happen to my income if I moved into a community residence?

Do you get your own “spending money” in a community residence?

Would I be eligible for Food Stamps if I moved into a CR?

How would my bills be managed if I moved into a CR? (Credit cards (some open, some closed) & Student Loans)

What would I be financially responsible for if I moved into a community residence?

I currently have a checking account @ --Bank-- in --Town --. Would this have to change if I moved to a community residence?

Thanks,

Andy.

OK... I have a question to help with your questions about the questions for your counselor who wanted you to submit questions to their questions.

What is a Community Residence?

Is that off campus housing? A group house? Some sort of dorm?

Having worked in a social service outfit for years, to me that term means a Halfway House.

Hello Andy!

I have a question: Have you already chosen which community residence you want to move into?

Not yet. We haven't started the application process yet to put me on the waiting list for placement.

Group house sounds closest to the description of a community residence.

Do you have a choice in where they place you or is it based on the first opening?

I'm not sure. I didn't ask that question.

I would think that's a very important question you need to be asking. Have you visited any of these community residences?

No. I don't know where in the process I'm allowed to go and visit them, but I think it's after I'm placed on the list, not before.

I'm sorry but this is just not right. I would never want to be put on a list for some strange place I've never seen. In fact, to me that sounds rather scary. I would want to investigate fully each and every community residence BEFORE putting my name on any waiting list. This way when a vacancy became available, I would know right away if it were a safe place where I could achieve the results I planned on.
