I've watched this one several times. A definite classic!
The movie is also known as ID or ID4 & was made in 1996. It is a Sci-Fi movie starring Will Smith, Bill Pullman, as well as other big name actors. Directed by Roland Emmerich.
A little trivia. While promoting the Stargate movie in Europe, Emmerich thought of the idea when he answered a question as to his believing if aliens exist.
The sequel was in 2016, 20 years later, called Independence Day: Resurgence. I didn't like the newest one that came out. I think they waited too long as it didn't have the same vibe.
What did you think of this? Did you like the sequel?

It's the closest I've ever seen to a sequel so bad that it retroactively ruins the original. I love the first movie, and I feel like Resurgence was so dull and poorly written that it became some kind of fun black hole that started sucking the fun out of the original from 20 years ago. Just a few highlights:
  • The first movie ran on cheesy but fun one-liners. Resurgence had exactly one good one-liner and replaced all the rest with characters shouting "AAAAA" while shooting at something.
  • Even the city destruction scenes were boring. They didn't feel real or impactful, and I don't think it was just because they were CGI and not miniatures.
  • Vivica A. Fox's character was criminally underused and then hilariously killed in a scene that has literally no impact whatsoever.
  • The guy who plays Will Smith's son in the movie is at least a better actor than Will Smith's actual son, but just barely.
