(Sky News) International Paralympic Committee votes to suspend Russia
The International Paralympic Committee has voted to suspend Russia at its extraordinary general assembly in Berlin.

Russia were banned from the 2022 Paralympics following the country's invasion of Ukraine.

And on Wednesday IPC members voted in favour of suspending the National Paralympic Committee of Russia.

The organisation said in a statement: "IPC members have voted 64-39 (with 16 abstentions) in favour of a motion to suspend NPC Russia with immediate effect due to its inability to comply with membership obligations under the IPC Constitution. Due to its suspension, NPC Russia loses all IPC membership rights subject to its right to appeal. Should any appeal not be upheld, only the general assembly can lift the suspension."

The IPC added the next general assembly meeting is likely to take place in the fourth quarter of 2023, with the next Paralympics starting in Paris in August of the following year.
