Is anyone here an introvert, shy, quiet that sometimes gets mistaken to be "rude" or "bitchy"? How do you handle it?

Sometimes I just feel like being quiet, ya know.

I am an introvert. Nobody ever called me rude or bitchy. Because, when my friends invite me and I go out, I speak quite normal, I joke, I am very active in communication, which I use as a mask for being introvert. I don't like people noticing I prefer solitude.

Trust me, when the occasion calls for it, I CAN be rude and no mistake.

Most of the time my not talking to people means I simply am exercising my God-given right to be left alone.

Yeah. I mean, how am I rude for not talking at all?

I'm very introverted. I have a reputation for having been rude to a lot of people and calling them out on their bs. It started when I was in my late teens. I became that way because I got tired of people picking on me and making fun of me. I became very defensive as a result. If someone threw a smart remark in my direction, I threw it back at them with a very rude reply. People will walk all over you if you don't stand up for yourself. I'd rather they think ill of me as a rude jerk than think of me as a walking door matt.

I think there's a distinct difference between 'rude', 'unfriendly', and 'shy'.
Not talking at all ...to me...would probably indicate 'shy'? Or maybe 'unfriendly'?
Seems that body language has a lot to do with determining what is really intended.
In any case, I guess any of the above would just be an indication to me to 'move on'. :D

I have never been called 'rude' but I have been called 'aloof'. One of the best compliments I have ever received. I even thanked the person for it!

Yes I am a bit of an introvert IRL and sometimes people think I am rude or grumpy but they are completely wrong! My partner is an introvert as well and sometimes I accuse him of being a grump when I should know better.
