A new app has been launched to help confirmed singletons convince friends and families that they really have a partner.

It is aimed at people who are in no rush to settle down but want to keep prying family and friends at bay, reports Metro.

Invisible Girlfriend promises to provide "believable virtual and real world proof" that you have a partner.

It provides phone calls, voicemails, random gifts and finally, the coup de grâce - a Facebook relationship.

Pricing for the service is on a month-by-month basis ranging from a budget £6.20 for the 'just talking' package to a pricey £49.99 for the 'almost engaged' one.

"We're giving them a better story to tell, even if the story isn't true," creator Matt Homann told the Riverfront Times.

The company is also currently developing an Invisible Boyfriend and says that both will be LGBT-friendly.

What are your thoughts about this app?

Honestly I see myself use it. I'm tired of the gay jokes my friends make and I'm tired of family bugging me.

I can relate to that, when people think you are single, sometimes they wont let up on the "When you going to get a girlfriend" crap. Its brought up over and over again.. Its like, mind your own goddamn business !

The worst part is when female friends try to set me up with someone. I don't get it, I'm 20 years old there's no reason to panic... >_>

Does that happen often?

Several years ago, when I was widowed if you must know, everybody I knew kept after me to 'meet someone new'.

And then, when I did, they all started in with "are you sure it isn't too soon?", "are you ready", and all that.

Listen to the old man here.... your social/love life is nobody else's damned business UNLESS you let it become their business.

...and your friends call you gay because you are single? That seems odd.

That's one expensive app. No thanks!

Quite so.

It's actually a pretty typical joke here. Nevertheless, it gets old...

Come on dude, don't mind what people say about you. Just stay true to yourself and do what you feel.

They're not hurting my feelings. I would just like to get rid of the constant nagging.

That being said, I might not have been clear in my original post. I see myself using it, not paying for it. :P
