Is having a verified member section a good idea?

Yes, I think the arrangement here is good; It's good to have a section for members who have an X amount of posts because it gives members something to 'shoot' for if they so choose.
It's good to have an X-rated section for those who choose; IF those members can keep their special trash confined to that section in respect of those members who do not wish to be included.
No, it is elitist.
We'd offer you Elite Membership here but too afraid you'd want out of that group because you'd think its Elitist
