A new study published in the journal Child Development finds that having strong reading skills as a child is a predictor for higher intelligence levels as a young adult. In previous studies, reading ability has been associated with improved health, education, socioeconomic status and creativity.

What do you think? Is literacy linked to one’s intelligence?

Can you be illiterate and still be smart?

I think smart people are smart irrespective of their literacy rates. While it's definitely uncommon in this day and age, I'm sure in the past there were all sorts of geniuses who couldn't read or write because it wasn't available to them.

I wouldn't say an illiterate person is dumb but they are going to face a lot of struggles in their life. It would be beneficial for them to learn how to read.
