I really don't understand why everyone loves this game.

Exactly!.. I don't even know how to play the game. I've tried to before I just don't get the concept of the game..

"depends on your prospective"
Honestly I god forsaken hate pvp way Multiplayer has become
minecraft it self becoming more resource heavy(ram wise)
What got me started with MC was MC classic(before mojang axe it off)
If wasn't for MC classic i wouldn't have buyed minecraft today(maybe but still)
MINECRAFT STORY IN ONE GO:
You find a cave(with iron armor)-->Find Diamond--->Make diamond equipment---->Find Strong Hold with eye of ender-->go in end portal--->kill ender dragon--You win-->then face wither---> you win
or Go Creative Route with Flat Land

While I do like Minecraft very much, there are still very much more important games on the market at the moment, in my opinion.

I agree. I enjoy it a lot myself, even though there are some things that are getting worse and some things that are getting better. I usually play creative on servers, I've grown to hate survival and I find single player boring.

So minecraft is important because some kids have over protective parents and don't get out enough? I suppose that's one theory. :|

I dont think its the most important game atm, but its probably one of the most played.
All ages play the game because it can appeal to any age group.

I have played on a multiplayer server for 3 years now and I still enjoy it, because it has its own twist on the game with the mods and tweaks to the game, (the server is a economy server)

It will be interesting to see what they come up with next in future updates because I did like the old school minecraft more then the current, its getting quite complicated nowadays.

I don't see what all the hype is about.
I play Minecraft with Mini Maul every so often and sometimes on my own, but I do it to mainly mine and build stuff.
My son is 6 and he's Autistic. Minecraft is his life now, lol. xD He has it (and plays it constantly) on his Xbox 360 and Kindle and he's always trying to kick me off my laptop so he can get on his account and play it there too! It's become an obsession... which I don't mind. Most kids with Autism are either completely obsessed with something or just not interested at all. There is no middle ground with them. I like that he's found something he enjoys doing and he talks to a bunch of other kids around he age on there and plays with them, it makes me happy he's being social. :) I guess for me, Minecraft has been an important tool to help my son over come his obstacles. I've always seen my son growing up to be an engineer or an architect. The fact he plays Minecraft all the time and just builds things and figures things out just proves that he may very well grow into the roles I've seen in him.

Can someone explain to me how a video game can be referred to as "important" in the first place? I mean....it's a video game. How "important" can it be??

As important as any other form of media, I imagine. There's cultural and educational value to be found and those things tend to be thought of as important.
What makes a book or movie important?
