Is overprotection of children a problem? Should children be exposed to more risks? Are children being kept in bubblewrap? Helicopter parents?

I keep seeing this brought up off and on. "parents don't want to parent" and "parents just want to be their kids friend nowadays"... I also am totally against spanking and hitting kids, but it did happen to me when I was young. This was the 90's, and it was the last decade I recall parents doing that. Nowadays you can't do that sort of thing, and am glad. Spanking and hitting makes you hate your parents or whoever is doing it.

I think if you over protect your kids they more likely to rebel and turn into a problem child.

If you give them a little freedom and trust them to make their own mistakes & learn from them, they'll probably do less bad things and turn into a more well rounded person.

That's a really tough call; in years, decades past I would have thought that overprotection of your kids was definitely a problem. Today, I don't think kids can be protected enough. I'm glad my kids are grown!

I feel like junior high and high school for sure teaches you this.

Protected from what? The world was just as chaotic back in the day, we just didn't hear about as much stuff because we didn't have the internet.

Stranger danger was a thing in the 90's and such. I recall watching videos in school about that and even shows having episodes relating to it.

Yup, tons of pervs and creepers back then, if not more so because it was so much more easier to get away with things back then.

They're already overprotected, the little brats. It's adults who need protecting from them.
