do you think socialism is a good thing or a bad thing for a society/community/country?

please explain...

Well this should be interesting ...
There are some who have just taken the word Socialism and use it now instead of the word Communism and throw it around with the word 'Liberal' like it is a swear word or something.

So how about this as a question.
Does a government elected by the people have a responsibility toward the well-being of its people?

the answer is yes, to the well-being of the country, states and 'we the people', but is that happening? :|

I will answer this the same way I did when this was asked a few months ago. Take it away Ayn Rand.

There is no difference between communism and socialism, except in the means of achieving the same ultimate end: communism proposes to enslave men by force, socialism—by vote. It is merely the difference between murder and suicide.

Socialism is the doctrine that man has no right to exist for his own sake, that his life and his work do not belong to him, but belong to society, that the only justification of his existence is his service to society, and that society may dispose of him in any way it pleases for the sake of whatever it deems to be its own tribal, collective good.

And there is the problem. Where is the distinction between well being and being a nanny state.

But you see this is the problem.... there needs to be some kind of balance in society, it is when there is balance that a society works.

Democracy is based on one fact that the majority of people set the agenda for the government policy, this is what happens on election day.

So taking the terminology of 'Socialism' out of the equation for a moment, and just focusing on human behaviour when a society becomes unbalanced, what do you think that the electorate will do and how they will vote when you have a growing marginalized society where the number of people that are falling into 'poverty' is growing?

How do you think they will vote? For more ultra- conservative, pro-capitalist policies? I don't think so.

So the people who are the most against any kind of moderate government intervention are the same people who are actually creating the increasing approval of liberal ideology because they are marginalizing more and more people.

It is called a vicious circle.

People love capitalism when they are making money, but by God when the economy crashed all the big capitalist companies and banks sure when looking to the government for their bail outs:

Fannie Mac, AIG, bank of America, GM, Citi Bank, Wells Fargo, Chrysler, Golman Sachs

They all receive hundreds of millions from the government to prevent them from going bust, how is that capitalism?

yet if an tax paying citizen needs support, or a assistance from their government is it is considered 'Socialism'.

the fact is, like it or hate it, the more people that get squeezed out of the middle class and become marginalized, the more people there will be voting for socialist like policies. The rich may get richer, but on election day it is the people who vote for policy.

This will be a short answer since I am answering on my phone having lunch in my van.

What you are talking about is crony capitalism/socialism. In no way is that capitalism. But if we are talking about socialism I am against anything that takes MY MONEY under the force of a gun and distributes it to another person.

do you support social security?

do you support the churches not paying property taxes?

do you support taxes?

I support Americas original taxation the founders put into place. A income tax they were absolutely against for the very reason why we are in so much debt.

do you support wars?

Yes I support the act of using our military that is clearly under the Constitution as one of its clearly defined powers they have.

do you support the taking of my money by force to use it to kill innocent lives?

Something tells me are going to absolutely disagree on what you call innocent lives and the power for our federal government to use the military.

do you support social security?

No! No! and No!

do you support the churches not paying property taxes?

With our current horrible tax code never meant for our kind of republic that depends if the church is doing what its intentions are designed for or not. If so then yes. If we had our original tax code back or some kind of flat tax I would want every last American paying into the system.

i rest my case here...

You will have to explain further so I do not know what case you are resting.

no, there's many reasons why this country is in debt, mostly because of the military industrial complex/military, wars and the federal reserve...

do you support wars?

Yes I support the act of using our military that is clearly under the Constitution as one of its clearly defined powers they have.
it also says only congress can allow the president to go to war and under defending our homeland, not to invade or attack another country, especially unprovoked...

only if i could understand your sloppy english... ;)

do you support social security?

No! No! and No!
that's funny because you said you did in the past... when did you change your mind?

do you support the churches not paying property taxes?

And if you are talking about the last two wars Congress gave permission.

As I said seems we will disagree.

I have never supported social security and never will. And have never said or written otherwise.

No I did not. The answer is pretty clear.

The real problem you have with any given system or organization isn't really with the organization as it is with people. it's people who make something good or bad so the real question to ask is people good or bad and for the most part most are bad though many likely don't know it.

Bad people ruin anything and everything they touch. You put good people into an organizations and it would be one you would support provided good people could run it as obviously something meant for evil could not be run by good people.

The same thing could be said for the Hollywood thread as well as this one and any others you post of this nature. The end of the line for all them is people as that's basically what you are using to define something as bad or good as the entities themselves can not be good or bad as they have no will to be anything as they are merely tools a person uses to do good or evil depending on their nature.

Oh it is the organization for sure that is designed that is the problem. It is just bad people can make a bad idea worse for the people while a good idea of a organization makes it far more difficult for the bad to effect the good citizens.

True. As shown after the last 25 years of bad leadership.
