It’s prom season, and that means two things: One, elaborate promposals that makes us fear for the next generation of actual proposals.

And two, teens in tears after being turned away for their ‘revealing’ dresses.

Yes, despite this U.S. teen attempting to adhere to the complex dress code, which explicitly stated that it allowed backless dresses, her school chucked her out after she’d been there just an hour, leaving her crying in the car park.

Mireya Briceno, from Muskegon USA, was left devastated after being told to leave the prom because her blue-and-white polka dot dress violated the guidelines.

The rule she and her mother *think* she violated (they weren’t told) was the one that stated dresses must not show any midriff.

The teen’s mum Connie Briceno was also confused by the decision.

‘They asked her to stand-up and turn around, so she turned around and they simply told her “You’re in violation. You need to go home,”‘ said her mother, Connie Briceno.

Muskegon High School Principal Brad Perkins said he’s only received positive feedback about the decision, which was made by another staff member.

Do you think this dress to revealing for prom? Why/Why not?

Personally I feel the choice in music allowed at the prom is much worse than the dress this girl was wearing

I feel she looked classy and elegant. Bet that staff member was jealous and that's why she was told to leave.

Well even looking at this photo I am stumped with what issue they are really seeing with this dress

Here we could ask ourselves what is more revealing the short dress or her dress

I seriously don't see a problem with the dress, though I was just recently re-introduced to the concept that we "women are just begging for it" when we show too much skin. It is obvious this girl has breasts and a derriere, so perhaps she should have worn a burqa to help the poor boys out, who are not expected to have any self-contol.

Or, maybe the school officials could have just blurred those *offensive* female body parts out of any photographs of the prom, so as to not 'invite a controversy'.

We've come a long way, baby...almost all the way back to Square One.

No, this dress is most definitely not too revealing. When it comes to fashion, they say show off one or two assets and hide/cover the others. So if you're going to show off legs, you should cover up the top and wear a short dress/skirt with strappy sandals, or if you're going to show off the top, choose something a little less showy on the bottom. This is essentially what the girl is doing, and she looks absolutely gorgeous--not raunchy or revealing. Perhaps revealing the "wrong parts" for this school's tastes, but I don't know.

Thanks, Dee...you just made me realize something.

I can no longer wear my strappy summer sandals, as there's a lot of males who have foot fetishes...and will not be able to control themselves over giving me "what I'm practically begging for" and will chase me down, remove my shoes, and begin licking and sucking my toes

out of their innate inability to control themselves.

Dammit. I really love my collection of strappy sandals, too. That's it!!! Ugg boots only, 365 days a year! We women must protect ourselves from our awesome and omnipotent power over men!!!

I don't know if that was sarcasm, but I wasn't going by men's fashion/fetish or what is considered too slutty or too revealing. It was from a fashion industry perspective and simply that. Of course, it's not a rule or a guideline As a woman, you and that girl can dress however you'd like without following anyone's standards. Anyone can dress however they'd like.

I don't get it as she nailed the period style completely, the dots might give me a headache but other than that I really think she looks great

@Dee

Nahhh, I wasn't being sarcastic, at least not at all in response to your post...your reference to strappy sandals just made me realize how it relates to the topic of another thread, currently running, in which we were re-introduced to the concept that how WE dress dictates how we will be treated by men, as they are incapable of controlling their raging hormones, once they start a-surging.

Apparently, the administrators of this school's prom are aware of males' inability to control themselves when exposed to the bare flesh of women. They should send home all the girls in strappy sandals, too...lest the boys with budding foot-fetishes go *craaaaazy* from the over-exposure.

I think it's absolutely ridiculous that THIS dress, of all the prom dresses, is being scrutinized. She is covered from shoulder to toe, basically, with a cut out above her chest and on her back. Big fucking deal, right? I could understand if she had come to the school in a bikini for prom, but in this case, it's a straight up no and the school administrators should be ashamed for thinking otherwise.

I love the dress and if my daughter was asked to leave the prim over it, I'd really put up a huge stink over it. I'd be mad ashell and they would wish they never asked her to leave when I was through with them.
