They are known for their displays of chilling, brutal violence – which are transformed into hateful propaganda videos.

But now, ISIS chief Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi has banned the horrific execution videos for which his group is renowned – as he’s worried about the group’s image.

Far from being an attempt to reconcile with the west though, he is said to have based the decision on a fear of offending Muslims – who might consider the videos to be scary for children.

He is said to have sent a letter to his media offices and told them they were no longer permitted to include violent, graphic footage in their videos – which first came to prominence with the crimes of ‘Jihadi John’ in 2014.

However, the brutal executions are still likely to continue – even if they’re not broadcast by the terror group.

Speaking to ARA News, Syrian lawyer and politician Ferid Hisso said: ‘Instead of banning the release of such videos, Baghdadi should have rather banned the crimes behind the scenes.

‘But he has already justified the barbarism of his followers, and his decision makes no sense’.
