It hurts so freaking much, ok?

...why did you even put that?

The song is now in my head. It's from even before my time.

love hurts and love can bring you happiness...

love can be good and bad...

just don't think you need or have to give up on love because sometimes love can hurt...

I disagree. Unrequited love (one-sided / unreciprocated love) hurts, yet it's still love.
Indeed, unrequited love weighs heavily upon you. It took courage to put yourself out there, to say: “Heh, I love you; do you love me back?” And, even if you are better than some at enduring rejection, one-sided love just doesn’t feel good.

It's the rejection that hurts not love. You can read more about it here with tips to help you with being rejected.

*shake my head*

My friend, I have a short story volume and a novel about unrequited love in the works. From Young Werther to J. Alfred Prufrock, from Wuthering Heights to The Phantom of the Opera, from Petrarca's Laura to Alighieri's Beatrice, from Don Quixote's Dulcinea to my very own unrequited crush, I am a compendium of information about unrequited love. I should be. I'm going to write a Ph.D thesis about it in a few years.

"It's not the love that hurts, it's the rejection"... :hmm: Well, if you want to get technical about it, then sure, but that's just like saying, you don't have a toothache, because teeth cannot feel fain, the nerve is the one that transmits the pain, so basically you have a mandibular nerve ache. While technically correct, nobody overanalyses things like that.

No, it's not just the rejection that hurts. The whole context hurts. The realization of the absurdity and inadequacy of one's feelings, the frustration of not being able to overcome them through reason, the struggle between reason and desire, all those are part of love, not part of the rejection. And all those things hurt.

I disagree. If it hurts, it's not "love". It's - at best - been mis-labeled as "love", but real "love" does not hurt.

It can't...it doesn't know how.

Best of luck to you, OP.

I guess I've never really felt much rejection because I have already convinced myself that I don't need or want anyone, and that I'm better off alone with just myself to worry about. Love, to me, is pointless and a waste of time.

Agreeing. But what I'm looking for currently are NEW friends.

You must teach me the secret to convincing oneself that. Teach me your methods, for I have yet to discover a way of doing so.

Same here. But for that one needs to know my horrible past from last year.
