Legendary photojournalist Robert Capa once said, If your pictures aren't good enough, you're not close enough.



Well, these photographers took that message to heart.



Photographers and scientists from around the globe have redefined the word closeup in this year's Nikon Small World Photomicrography Competition -- a contest highlighting images taken through the powerful lens of a microscope.



The 36th annual competition featured photos of a number of small wonders, including the eyes of a mayfly and the cell structure of seaweed, but Tennessee scientist Jonas King took top honors with his stunningly detailed shot of a mosquito's heart.
