The most important numbers foreshadowing Tuesday's seismic election outcome didn't come from political polls or popularity surveys. It wasn't the ubiquitous tabulations of likely voters or the live-or-die party calculations for their get-out-the-vote drives, either.

The 2010 midterms were all about the jobs.

It's clear that the voters sent a message, which is they want us to focus on the economy and jobs and moving this country forward, President Barack Obama said today while discussing the results after a Cabinet meeting.

Exit polls showed the economy, and specifically job security, was voters' biggest concern when they entered polling stations.

And the issue is likely to dominate headlines again Friday with the release of the monthly employment and payroll numbers from the Labor Department.

This week's numbers may not carry the dramatic political influence of the past reports, which told a story of stalling job creation, tainting the national mood and sapping support for the governing Democrats.

It's absurd to vote for the Republicans that are just going to wait for the economy to restore itself because you think the Democrats aren't doing enough...
