TORCHWOOD star John Barrowman has had to quit his favourite food ââ¬â after a claws encounter almost killed him.
The actor and singer revealed he had to go to hospital after suffering a severe allergic reaction when he gorged himself on lobster at London restaurant J. Sheekey.
Barrowman, 44, said: ââ¬ÅI was doing a show for composer Stephen Sondheim and we used to go out after each performance.
ââ¬ÅFor a week we ate oysters in a half shell. On our last shellfish blowout, we had this gorgeous lobster with a caviar truffle, preceded by champagne oysters and lobster bisque.
ââ¬ÅWe simply gorged ourselves on this amazing feast of shellfish and thought nothing more of it.
ââ¬ÅBut, overnight, I obviously developed an allergic reaction ââ¬â my face blew up, my tongue nearly choked me and I had to go to the hospital. Lo and behold, I was suddenly allergic to my favourite meal.
ââ¬ÅI can still eat caviar but itââ¬â¢s not the same without the lobster and itââ¬â¢s rather expensive. So shellfish is a long-distant wonder to me now and itââ¬â¢s all come about through pure overkill.ââ¬Â
Glaswegian Barrowman played Captain Jack Harkness in stablemate sci-fi dramas Doctor Who and Torchwood.
