We had a staff meeting this morning at the hospital. We were told that one of our co-workers will be let go next Monday. We also got a disciplinary action warning not to call and warn her or discuss this outside the meeting room. Right now, this co-worker is on vacation. I happen to be very close to this co-worker and happen to also know she's planning on buying a home soon. I feel like I'm between a rock and a hard place right now. I don't think anyone has the right to tell you who you can and cannot talk to. Do you? Would you go ahead and warn her?

That's an ethical dilemma I do not envy you.

If you can trust her not to blab to the bosses that you leaked the information, then I'd think about it.

It could also be a test to see who cannot be trusted to keep internal secrets, they have done things like that at my work, and some have failed.

Thank you for your input Doc! I'm having a really hard time with this one. It's a free country and I believe nobody has the right to dictate who I can or cannot speak to. On the other hand, do I want to risk losing a job that I truly love? That answer is a definate no. Trying to find a loop hole here so that I can warn her and not have it traced back to me. Well, I think I found the loop hole. They warned us not to CALL her. I'm thinking that I can use a friends computer, create a bogus email and send the warning off that way.

What do you think of that idea?

What a about the IP address Jazzy ? If they trace it back to your friends computer

could they find about you that way ?

Would a computer in a library be better ?

Actually, re the loophole, it's not really much of a one. The warning was that

nobody 'warns' her - so it doesn't matter how it's done really.

What I don't get is this - if they didn't want anyone to tell her, why did

they tell everyone else ! She's going to be the last to know !

exactly............this just sounds all wrong.............why tell everyone before her?......no reason for it............just sounds like a 'trap' of some sort to me.................do you not all belong to a union?......get some proper advice

If I was that person, I'd be demanding to know why

everyone else was told before me. It doesn't seem

right somehow.

Is there any chance Jazzy that this is not true ?

I wonder if there has been other information 'leaked' by

someone and they are trying to find out who is likely to

be the culprit.

You're in a dilemma but nobody is at fault for it, they might have a reasoning for it so the freedom of speech jazz is just silly, just ask yourself if it's worth giving her a heads up at risk of getting in-trouble.

I don't know what's going on or why. After thinking about it all night, I have decided to just mind my own business. I thank everyone who took the time to reply.
