So the latest report in the UK suggests that many teenagers now carry knifes as forms of protection.

Rather than blaming the government for the lack of effort,

If you were prime minister - how do you think you would combat this problem?

I don't see anything wrong with carrying knives personally, but I'd say that they shouldn't be used as a first resort.

I understand that teenagers are carrying the knifes as protection, but if some of the people in my same grade level carried around a knife, I'd be deathly afraid to even approach the campus.

As for the question, I really don't know how I'd combat the problem... ^.^;;

Letting young people carry knives around... what a great idea and how comforting for people around them.

I don't think there is a problem for carrying a jack knife around, but really some people I know carry around switch blades (which are illegal but meh), school doesn't have metal detectors though so no one gets caught.

Carry carries pepper spray.

I dont see anything wrong with self defense equipment (like knifes). Its a sick world out there and you need to be ready for the weirdos!

I carry a knife around with me everywhere. Don't see a problem with it personally.

I would carry a knife regardless of the legalities of it. You would probably never need to use it and nobody knows whats in your pockets anyways. If people chose to be defenseless in a situation where a weapon could have saved them then that's their choice. Dont think if you just hand over whatever you have, they will just say Thank you and walk away... I know I would rather get myself out of a situation alive and maybe spend a few days in jail instead of being killed or be seriously hurt because someone wanted the $20 in my wallet.

Of course Im only talking about extreme situations when there is no other options. Most of the time you can just duck into a room /building, get in your car (if you are near it), get to somewhere where other people are, or whatever else and call the police or just wait for them to leave.

I have two knives in my purse right now as I am typing this (I didn't know the one was in there I forgot about it and put the other one in). as long as knives are not used really violently-like it should be okay. and as long as we don't have like elementary and junior high school kids carrying them around. as long as kids don't get into knife fights every single day it should be okay. there are a lot of creepy people in this world and people need to understand that it's not all sunshine and lollypops. so long as knives don't become a major issue like guns are then people should be allowed.

Would explain why knife crime is quite high. Most youngsters who do carry knifes though tend to be the ones using them for bad.
