I was looking through Craigslist and saw some guy selling some Krampus stuff. I wondered what it was and then found out it's some foreign holiday that is sort of based on Santa.

Found this site which has some e-cards: http://www.krampuskarten.com

If I ever have kids I think I will have them believe in this guy instead of Santa

There are many other Christmas traditions that DO NOT solely focus on the patron saint of pawnbrokers, brewers, and broadcasters.

Krampus is one of the more fascinating, as is the character of Black Peter who was recently declared racist.

But, this one, would to us seem to be happening a couple of months late:

The story of Krampus was in a episode of American Dad. :P

Interesting tale indeed.

Didn't know about the American Dad episode, just looked it up. Going to check that out, looks funny.

Tried to see if South Park had him too but nothing..hope they take him on as it should be even more hilarious.

Krampus is a god who is said to punish naughty children and frighten them over yuletide.

He is of Germanic Pagan origin. Said to be the son of Hel (Goddess of the underworld)

He is supposed to be the counterpart of St Nicholas, St Nicholas gave good children sweeties, Krampus whacked them and took them to his lair.

You say Krampus is based on Santa, but I can tell you Santa is based on the All father, ODIN ;)

In fact most of Christmas tradition is actually Pagan origin.
